Minnesota: This investment supports the replacement of old and malfunctioning dental equipment for the West Side Dental Clinic. Two clinics provide comprehensive preventive and emergency dental care on a sliding fee scale and are culturally and linguistically sensitive targeting the Hispanic and Hmong communities. Annually the clinics serves 7,000 patients, 97% had incomes below 200% of the federal poverty level. The poverty level, lack of English speaking citizens, minority populations, housing issues are all barriers to receiving oral care. The large majority of patients served in the dental clinics are also medical patients. This allows for shared electronic medical records as well as consistency of care. West Side dental and medical staff work collaboratively. Grant funds provided through the Community Response Fund improve access to care by contributing to an efficient operation.
