Virginia: This investment supports the Halifax Regional Hospital to implement a dental outreach program in two high need nursing facilities in the Halifax, Mecklenburg and Charlotte Counties in Virginia. The overall community is at high risk in most measures, poor, poorly educated, with a high unemployment rate and a high rate of uninsured and consistently rated among the least healthy regions of the state. This program is in immediate response to an aging community and will provide dental services on-site to two nursing facilities. This project will serve both facilities with reliable, high quality and comprehensive oral exams, x-rays and cleanings for residents who have no dental home and who are challenged in their mobility, making it difficult for them to get to a dental office appointment. It will strengthen the continuum of care for the elderly in their area. Up to 300 unique patients will establish a dental home through this program. Grant funds provided through the Community Response Fund will assist with the purchase of equipment.
