In dentistry, minimally invasive techniques focus on the preservation of tooth and tissue.  As dental care teams return to practice and evaluate patient care needs, they are highly mindful of safety precautions in support of infection control.  Minimally invasive approaches offer reductions to aerosol risk and also can enable patients and caretakers options for shared-decision making for their oral health.  In this webinar, we’ll review minimally-invasive approaches and discuss how they can support patient empowerment and full-team engagement.

  • Margherita Fontana, DDS, PhD, Clifford Nelson Endowed Professor of Dentistry in Department of Cariology Restorative Sciences & Endodontics, University of Michigan
  • Laura Skaret, RDH, BSDH, Innovation Hygienist, DentaQuest

Learning objectives:

  • Be able to identify several strategies for non-restorative management of active caries lesions (e.g., sealants, SDF, Curodont repair), and how these can be used and/or adapted by a care team to non-aerosol environments
  • Understand the need for patient involvement in caries disease management, and ways to engage patients in at home self-care strategies
  • Understand the role that caries lesion classification and monitoring has in decision-making for caries management, particularly as it relates to evaluating performance of non-restorative strategies
