Support to partner the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and other national organizations to develop consensus in the area of caries risk assessment (CAT). The AAPD will coordinate activities of key stakeholders to increase utilization of a universally accepted and endorsed CAT process and tool in primary care. Additionally, the AAPD will facilitate distribution of the CAT as well as guidelines and tools to improve the coordination of services between the medical and dental communities to ensure that all children are effectively referred for dental care as needed. All activities will be overseen by a collaboratively developed Advisory Board consisting of multi-disciplinary organizations interested in the welfare of children. The American Academy of Pediatrics will be a primary partner in this project along with a coalition of stakeholders that includes: The American Dental Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Medicaid State Dental Association and others.
