Grant Project Title
State Policy Opportunities to Improve Oral Health
Grantee Address

National Conference of State Legislatures
7700 East First Place
Denver, CO
United States

This investment supports the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) to develop new resources, learning, and convening opportunities for state legislators and legislative staff designed to increase their awareness of oral health and policy opportunities adopted by other states. As an organization, NCSL represents all 7,383 state legislators and nearly 3,000 legislative staff. Leveraging its networks, NCSL will be able to transfer information about the importance of oral health, provide examples of effective policies and programs that improve the oral health of gap populations, and bring together important stakeholders with the authority to create progress in this field. In 2020, NCSL will host and convene at least 20 state legislators and legislative staff at an oral health session during its 2020 Annual Legislative Summit in Nashville. The session will include expert faculty and state legislators sharing state examples on effective policy solutions that address oral health that they have adopted in their respective states. In addition, NCSL will conduct a webinar on state level health policy options and trends prior to the 2021 legislative session and publish a blog highlighting themes from the meeting and/or topics that emerge from legislative tracking. $52,000 will be used to support personnel time necessary for the implementation of this work, meeting expenses associated with convening legislators/legislative staff, communications and marketing costs to develop and disperse materials, and administrative costs that support the execution of the proposed work.
