The purpose of this grant is to continue to build the capacity of healthcare consumers in state to meaningfully engage in policy and systems change; to improve the public perception of the value of oral health to overall health; to enhance collaborative, cross-blade infrastructure processes, shared power, and decision-making; and to elevate health equity and social justice approaches within the Oral Health Progress and Equity Network that are fully informed by, and reflective of, community voices. As a policy institute, CVPHI brings a capacity around data synthesis, report generation, and story-telling around community health issues. As a Grassroots Lead Organization they also have the capacity to develop tools that support their grassroots partners can use in moving the needle in oral health in a given space. In 2019, CVPHI will continue to live into this role as a tool-builder as they gather information from a broad range of sources and filter that information into a refined, community-centered tool focused on policy change. This year they will produce a "System Challenges to Access to Care" policy brief, will continue to study consumer-focused messaging, and will produce a report on analyzing the potential impact of mid-level providers in the oral health workforce. This aligns with the Oral Health 2020 goal of shifting the public perception of oral health with a target of increasing oral health in overall health dialogue and in public policy. The budget for this proposal is $70,800 and is primarily to support staff time on this project.
