DENTAQUEST INSTITUTE HOSTS FIRST-EVER ACADEMYHEALTH ORAL HEALTH FELLOW
Dr. Hyewon Lee selected for 2017 Delivery System Science Fellowship class
Westborough, Mass. - DentaQuest Institute recently announced its selection as one of four host sites for AcademyHealth’s Delivery System Science Fellowship (DSSF). This year marks the first that AcademyHealth has selected an oral health fellow and host site as part of the DSSF.
“We are honored to be the first site to host a delivery system science fellow focused on oral health,” said Tequila Terry, executive director of the DentaQuest Institute. “And I am excited to share that we will continue this partnership with AcademyHealth in 2018.”
Following a rigorous evaluation process, Hyewon Lee, DMD, MPH, joined DentaQuest Institute this month to begin her work as a 2017 DSSF fellow. Dr. Lee will collaborate with DentaQuest leadership and Institute program teams to engage in health policy analysis, strategic planning, and evaluation design aimed at addressing health equity by increasing the quality, accessibility, and value of the delivery system. Her research will focus specifically on children and pregnant women.
“The oral health delivery system remains largely separate from the rest of our health care ecosystem and it’s vitally important to get the word out that oral health is part of general health,” said Margo Edmunds, PhD, vice president, AcademyHealth. “We felt it was important that the Delivery System Science Fellowship support strong leaders like Dr. Lee and place them with organizations like DentaQuest that are committed to developing the evidence necessary to understand and improve quality and access, particularly for at-risk populations.”
The Institute will provide design, measurement and analytic modeling support to Dr. Lee, who will transform comprehensive internal and external data sets and information into actionable knowledge about effective and efficient care. Dr. Lee will also examine how her work can be used to improve the care system and better inform policy and financing of care.
Qualified individuals interested in participating in the DSSF can apply now for the 2018 class. The ideal oral health-focused candidate has a strong clinical background and foundation in statistical theory and practice, is a proactive thinker and a self-starter, and enjoys working in a fast-paced and challenging environment with the ability to work independently.
