In late September, all 15 Dental Caries Management (DCM) Collaborative teams came together for Virtual Learning Session 2. Unlike Learning Session 1, which has held in Cambridge, MA in March 2015, this two-day meeting was held entirely online. Improvement teams carved time from their practice schedules and gathered - some together in one room, some from separate offices – to gain and share more ideas about how to test and implement a chronic disease management protocol for children and adolescents ages six to twenty.
During the meeting, teams celebrated their hard work over the past 7 months of the collaborative. Teams exchanged lessons learned and shared new ideas to try with other collaborative teams. All teams are using quality improvement methodology to test and implement changes, and are using data to track their successes. The meeting dived into how to design reliable workflow processes, maximize team potential, and engage with children and adolescents about improving their oral health. Expert faculty reviewed best practices for caries lesion charting, minimally invasive techniques, scheduling recare visits based on caries risk, and using data to guide action. Teams left the learning session with detailed plans and revitalized energy for their work ahead in the next action period.
